Liverpool will be able to replace Giovanni Leoni in their Champions League squad after he suffered a serious knee injury, which could result in the inclusion of Federico Chiesa.
Leoni is facing a lengthy lay-off that will run into several months after suffering the injury during his debut in the club’s 2-1 win over Southampton in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
The 18-year-old centre back, who joined from Parma in August, had given an assured performance but was left in a heap after an innocuous tussle and was carried off on a stretcher after lengthy treatment at the side of the pitch.
