Alcohol deaths in Scotland remain 'appallingly high' despite the SNP's efforts to cut down on booze fatalities with minimum unit pricing, campaigners warned today.
Latest figures showed alcohol deaths in Scotland last year fell to their lowest level since before the Covid pandemic.
But Scotland continues to have the highest rate of alcohol specific deaths of any country in the UK.
The data also showed people in the most deprived areas of Scotland are 4.5 times more likely to die as a result of drink than those in the most affluent communities.
There were 1,185 alcohol specific deaths in 2024, according to the figures published by National Records of Scotland.
