Donald Trump has urged Americans not to take paracetamol over claims it is linked to autism after hailing an “amazing” new drug that could be used to treat the condition.
The US president’s administration has pledged to ramp up production of Leucovorin, which is typically used in cancer treatment to counter the side effects of other drugs, for use with autism patients.
Early medical trials have shown that Leucovorin could help children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with how they speak to and understand others.
Meanwhile, Mr Trump urged people watching: “Don’t take Tylenol,” which is a brand name for paracetamol.
A spokesperson for Tylenol’s manufacturer, Kenvue, has denied that the painkiller is linked to autism.
