The vessels involved in the Global Sumud Flotilla, which is heading towards Gaza with the aim of breaking the Israeli blockade to get aid to Palestinians in the enclave, were followed by the threatening presence of drones late on Sunday, two Italian lawmakers who are on board said in a statement on Monday.
'Last night a little over 200 miles off the coast of Porto Palo (in Sicily), drones were constantly visible over the boats of the Global Sumud Flotilla," said Arturo Scotto and Annalisa Corrado, respectively a Lower House MP and MEP for the opposition, centre-left Democratic Party (PD).
"It is not known what their origin was or why they flew over our heads for several hours during the night.
"We appeal to European governments to keep watch so that this does not happen.
"No one must touch the Flotilla".
