To rein in notorious rowdy elements in the city, the Greater Chennai City Police have been invoking provisions of the Chennai City Police Act and issuing externment orders banning such elements from entering the city.

The law aims to safeguard public peace and prevent the recurrence of criminal activities. These orders are issued against criminal elements involved in multiple serious criminal cases, posing a significant threat to public safety.

Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun has passed externment orders banning at least eight men in six months. Five persons were invoked with the orders this month. They are D. Ajay Rogan, 36, of Mylapore; M. Raja, 42, of Thiruvanmiyur; V. Nagendra Sethupathi, 33, of Ramanathapuram; M. Premkumar, 45, of Madurai; and T. Selvabharathi, 26, of Chennai. ‘Nedunkundram’ Surya (BJP state office bearer), ‘Naduveerapattu’ Lenin, and ‘Rocket’ Raja were issued similar orders and banned from entering the city in April.

In this connection, with the coordination of various districts across Tamil Nadu, the City Police have identified criminals who have been absconding to evade legal action and initiated strict legal proceedings against them.

Based on this, the Commissioner, Mr. Arun, passed the order against eight men who are classified as history-sheeted rowdies under Section 51A of the Chennai City Police Act. These eight individuals were involved in multiple serious criminal cases and posed a significant threat to public safety, said the Commissioner in his orders. Now they cannot enter the city limits for one year, except for any court proceedings.
