Hyderabad experienced a sudden spell of heavy showers on Sunday evening after an otherwise bright and sunny day, bringing much-needed relief from the heat but also causing waterlogging in several areas.
The downpour, which began around 7 p.m., caught many weekend commuters off guard, forcing several to take shelter under Metro stations in parts of Secunderabad, including Paradise, Parade Ground and Marredpally. Fortunately, with it being a Sunday, the rains did not result in major traffic snarls.
According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), the city recorded a sharp surge in rainfall within just an hour. As of 8 p.m., Defence Colony reported the highest rainfall at 85 mm, followed by 51.5 mm in Hayatnagar. Other notable figures included 24.8 mm in Uppal, 22.8 mm in Vanasthalipuram, 18.3 mm in Secunderabad Cantonment, 17.5 mm in Mallapur, 15.8 mm in Saroornagar, 15.5 mm in Habsiguda, 13.3 mm in LB Nagar and 10.8 mm in Anandbagh.
