The Karur police have busted a counterfeit currency note racket operating across different parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh.

The police said following the recent arrest of a 52-year-old man, identified as T. Kandeeban of Sathiyamurthy Nagar in Thanthonimalai, who was said to have used counterfeit currency to settle his bill in a Tasmac outlet, Superintendent of Police Jose K. Thangaiah formed a special team to investigate the case. Based on inputs by Kandeeban, the police arrested K. Rajendran, 44, belonging to Puthutheru in Mayiladuthurai on September 12. The police subsequently arrested S. Jayakumar, 48, at Guduvanchery in Chennai in connection with the racket. He hailed from Sanjeerayankottai in Salem.

According to the police, based on the leads provided by the arrested persons, the team went to Kerala and Andhra Pradesh and arrested M. Shanu, 44, from Thiruvananthapuram and Arjun alias Vijayakumar belonging to Andhra Pradesh in Chennai on Saturday. A machine printing counterfeit currency was seized from Shanu.
