The School Education Department in Tiruchi has decided to prepare a comprehensive action plan to improve the pass percentage of government schools in the forthcoming Plus Two and SSLC public examinations.
Despite efforts, the district’s Plus Two pass percentage has not shown significant improvement in recent years. Tiruchi recorded 95.83% in 2025, 95.74% in 2024, and 96.02% in 2023. Of the 106 government schools in the district, only 10 secured a 100% pass this year — fewer than the previous year.
However, in SSLC examinations, Tiruchi district secured the fifth position in the State by recording 96.61% pass this year. Government schools recorded 95.42% pass, putting the district in the fourth position in the State. As many as 92 government schools and 28 aided schools achieved 100% pass results.
Officials said the move comes after a review of recent academic performance, which showed the need for targeted measures to support students, especially in rural and underprivileged backgrounds. The initiative will focus on identifying weak areas of learning, strengthening subject-wise preparation, and providing additional coaching and guidance to slow learners.
As many as 89 government and aided schools that underperformed along with 205 teachers whose students recorded lower pass percentages, have been identified. They have been urged to take measures to reduce failures.
