Jeremy Corbyn's new hard-left party has been engulfed in more chaos as the party's co-founder, Zarah Sultana, said she has been a victim of 'baseless attacks' that are 'politically-motivated' in a party membership row.

The Coventry South MP, who is helping Mr Corbyn set up his Your Party movement, said she had instructed lawyers after 'false and defamatory statements' were made about her role in launching the new party's membership portal.

The bitter row erupted on Thursday when Mr Corbyn claimed an 'unauthorised email' had been sent to supporters encouraging them to pay up to £55 a year to join the party.

The message urged people to sign up via a payment link and included Ms Sultana's name.

But just hours later, the former Labour leader issued an 'urgent message' warning backers not to hand over money and to cancel any direct debits immediately.
