The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Friday arrested six persons from Coimbatore, including a childless couple, who were involved in an illegal adoption of a male baby from Maharashtra and disposing of the body on a railway track near Coimbatore following its death.The arrested have been identified as A. Marialouis, 47, his wife M. Radhamani, 37, of Textool Layout on Nandha Nagar Road in Singanallur; R. Vaisali, 44, of Gurusamy Layout in Neelikonampalayam; her sons R. Akshay, and R. Praveenkumar; and Praveenkumar’s wife P. Kiruthika.A male baby, about six months old, was found dead on a railway track between Sulur and Irugur stations at 9.10 a.m. on September 14. A chicken, traces of blood and turmeric powder were found at the spot. The GRP, Podanur station, registered a case for suspicious death and launched an investigation with five special teams.The special teams collected statements from various people, employed cyber forensic tools, and examined footages from several surveillance cameras to zero in on six suspects. They were summed by the GRP for questioning on Friday.A statement from the GRP said that the six accused admitted to their involvement in the disposal of the child’s body on the railway track.As per their statement, Marialouis and Radhamani sought the help of Vaisali to adopt a child. Radhamani and Vaisali went to Maharashtra, where they adopted a male baby from a couple known to the latter’s sister. They reached Coimbatore with the baby on September 13. However, the infant died due to illness the same day. The six accused plotted to dispose of the body in a deserted place and chose the railway track between Sulur and Irugur stations for the same.According to the GRP, Marialouis, Radhamani, Akshay, Praveenkumar and Kiruthika took the body of the infant to the location in a car and disposed it on the track on September 13 night. The accused told the police that they also sacrificed a black chicken and sprinkled turmeric powder as per custom as the baby died on a Saturday. They said that it was not a human sacrifice.The six accused were arrested for offences under Sections 80 and 81 of the Juvenile Justice Act and 94, 239 and 301 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.The accused were produced before a court on Friday and sent for judicial remand.
