Torrential rains lashed Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Thursday (September 18, 2025), with gushing waters and debris reducing homes to rubble. The deluge left two persons dead, while at least seven others remain missing.Uttarakhand rains: Follow updates on September 18, 2025Just two days ago, rains and floods wreaked havoc in State capital Dehradun, leaving 21 dead and 17 missing.According to the Chamoli district administration, several villages in the Nand Nagar area suffered extensive damage. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, the police, doctors, and paramedics were rushed to the affected sites, with rescue operations launched on a war footing.Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the situation with senior officials and directed them to ensure every possible effort to save lives. He instructed the Chamoli District Magistrate to airlift the seriously injured to AIIMS Rishikesh, while officials in flood-hit districts were ordered to restore roads, electricity, water supply, and communication networks at the earliest. In nearby Kuntari Laga Sarpani, one person was reported dead, one missing, and several injured. Dhurma village recorded two missing persons. Across the three villages, 25–30 homes and establishments were damaged.Over 200 people in the region, who were impacted by the disaster, took refuge in rehabilitation centres set up by the government in nearby schools and community halls.Since August 5, when torrential rains caused the Kheer Ganga river to overflow and flatten Dharali village in Uttarkashi — leaving two dead and 67 still missing, Uttarakhand has been reeling under the repeated floods.
