Hailing Shimla-based Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) and All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) in evaluating and propagating the technologies, in potato crop, Dr. Brajesh Singh, director ICAR - CPRI, said due to these efforts, now India ranks second in potato production and one of the important exporter of potato.He was speaking at the 43rd Annual Group meeting of All India Coordinated Research Project on Potato, held at the College of Horticulture, Bengaluru, a three-day programme which started on Wednesday. Vishnuvardhana, Vice-Chancellor, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot, highlighted the importance of potato in South India and suggested exploring Karnataka for seed production. He also suggested developing some new varieties suitable for cultivation and having heat-tolerant, bacterial wilt and late blight resistant varieties. A total of 70 scientists working on potato crop participated from different parts of India. The programme was organized by University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot, Horticultural Research and Extension Centre, Hassan and CPRI, Shimla. Published - September 17, 2025 07:31 pm IST
