BAt least two Maoists were killed by security forces in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Wednesday (September 17, 2025), police said.A senior police officer said a gunfight broke out around 3 p.m. when Maoists opened fire on a team of security personnel, which was conducting a search operation. The officer said intermittent firing was on till the evening.Editorial:On acting against the Maoists“So far, during the search operation, bodies of two Maoists, one .303 rifle, one barrel grenade launcher, explosives and other material have been recovered from the encounter site,” the officer said.A statement from the police said that since the operation was on, the location of the encounter, the number of security personnel involved in it and other sensitive information “cannot be shared at this time, so that the safety of the soldiers involved in the operation can be ensured”.In another incident in the district, Maoists stabbed to death a 36-year-old man in the early hours of Wednesday after accusing him of being a ‘police informer’.
