A Syrian refugee who posed as a Good Samaritan to help a lost drunk woman before sexually assaulting her in a park has been jailed. Khaled Ibrahim, 46, molested his victim after she became separated from her friends during a night out in March 2022. Ibrahim - who arrived in the UK from war-torn Syria in 2016 - took the woman's hand and offered to help her, before then forcing himself upon her, a court heard. The predator then attempted to rip off her clothes, touch her breasts and put his hands down her pants during the nightmarish attack in Wallsend, Newcastle. The victim managed to escape Ibrahim's clutches, pushing him away and running to a stranger's house, where she told a woman she had been sexually assaulted. Bespectacled Ibrahim was later apprehended by police and has now been jailed for five years after being found guilty of carrying out the sex attack. Newcastle Crown Court heard how the victim, who was in her 20s, had become lost on a night out and encountered Ibrahim and his friend while walking the streets. Ibrahim later offered to help the woman find her way home. However, the court heard the pervert had an ulterior motive, telling his friend he wanted to have sex with her before sending him away to buy alcohol. Khaled Ibrahim, 46, molested his victim after she became separated from her friends during a night out in March 2022.Alone, the defendant walked his victim to a park behind the Wallsend Health Centre where they sat on a bench and smoked - before he pounced. 'It was dark and this park was out of the way and there was nobody else present,' Judge Robert Adams said, reported Chronicle Live.'She was drunk and alone with you. As she became concerned and stood up to leave, you grabbed her, kissed her and grabbed her breasts. You put your hands down her trousers and (sexually assaulted her).'She struggled to push you off. You tried to get her trousers down but her struggling was successful.'The court heard the woman managed to break free from Ibrahim and run to a stranger's home, where the police were alerted. After being identified from CCTV, Ibrahim was arrested and questioned in connection with the report but denied any wrongdoing.Following a long and complex investigation by the Northumbria Police's safeguarding department, in April last year, Ibrahim was charged with one count of sexual assault. After a trial at Newcastle Crown Court in August, he was found guilty by a jury of assault by penetration. He was jailed for five year on September 12. Ibrahim will also spend the rest of his life on the Sex Offenders' Register. In a victim impact statement, the victim described how the incident had ruined her life. She said: 'I am very cautious about who I speak to in general, but I feel I have been forced to put a barrier up now and have had panic attacks in public since this incident making me feel extremely vulnerable whilst out in public alone.'Because this was a stranger offence I am worried I will bump into the suspect. I have not been sleeping properly and have been suffering from nightmares regularly. These nightmares got worse over the week leading up to court.'I have had trouble maintaining friendships with male friends, people I should be able to trust. My mind wonders all the time questioning if I am safe in other peoples' company.'I am really struggling to come to terms with what happened to me.' Pictured is the entrance to the park where Ibrahim sexually assaulted his victim Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Constable Caroline Ross, of Northumbria Police, said: 'Ibrahim is clearly a predatory man who was on the lookout for someone vulnerable that night which he unfortunately found.'I want to praise the victim in this case who trusted police by making that first report and allowed us to act for her and bring her attacker to justice.'Det Con Ross added: 'Ibrahim now has the rest of his life ahead of him on the Sex Offenders' Register so everyone will know what he is and how he behaves.'We hope the outcome sends a clear message to others who may consider committing these types of crimes – we won't tolerate this and we will do everything we can to put you before the courts.'For support, visit Northumbria Police's website.
