The Patna High Court on Wednesday (September 17, 2025) directed the Congress party to remove from its social media handles an AI-generated video depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother. A Division Bench headed by Acting Chief Justice P.B. Baijanthri passed the order on a public interest litigation petition filed in the court. The court also issued notices to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other relevant parties. In the petition, the Union government and the Election Commission were also named as respondents. The official X account of the Bihar Congress had posted the 36-second clip on September 10, 2025 showing the Prime Minister’s mother rebuking him over his politics in a dream. The court stated that such a video violates guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court and various High Courts. The order proves that politics should not stoop so low. The Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal know very well that the days of their politics are over in Bihar. They are doing such things out of frustration, knowing well that they are going to lose the upcoming Assembly election,“ said BJP spokesperson Kuntal Krishna.Women leaders of the National Democratic Alliance had strongly condemned the Congress party, alleging that “insulting women had become the destiny of the Congress party”.JD(U) MLC and spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, “That video was derogatory socially and politically as well. The court’s order is the mirror for those people who always claim that the constitution is in danger. Insulting anyone’s mother is a legal offence and Congress and RJD is going to pay the price in the upcoming assembly election for their acts.” Published - September 17, 2025 02:19 pm IST
