Directing officials to take steps for effective supervision of street lighting in rural areas, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy instructed them to entrust the setting up and maintenance of LED street lights to sarpanches.
The gram panchayats should install street lights wherever necessary, and they should be given the responsibility of their maintenance. Panchayat Raj department officials should survey the existing poles, the number of LED lights available and the requirement of new ones. The mandal parishad development officers of the respective mandals should maintain a dashboard of LED lights, and the additional collectors should be asked to supervise the effective functioning of the system.
Mr. Revanth Reddy gave the instructions during a review meeting with senior officials of Panchayat Raj, Municipal Administration and GHMC on Monday.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that there were 16.16 lakh LED lights across the State and the contract agencies were entrusted with the responsibility of their operation and maintenance in Warangal, Nalgonda, Jangaon and Narayanpet districts. The CM directed that the LED street lighting system should be linked with the Integrated Command Control Centre.
