The Tamizhaga Cauvery Vivasayigal Sangam has exhorted the State government to ensure that the removal of ‘vengayathamarai’ (water hyacinth) from drain channels/rivers in the delta region is carried out without political interference.

Addressing the media at Mangudi on Monday, Sangam general secretary P. R. Pandian thanked the State government for allocating ₹18 crore for the removal of water hyacinth blocking the water flow in the drain channels/rivers in delta region.

He pointed to the Sangam’s decision to shelve its plan to hold demonstrations after the district administrations assured farmers that steps would be taken for removal of water hyacinth blocking the flow of water in irrigation drain channels/rivers, particularly in Muthupettai region

He also said the water hyacinth removal exercise should be taken up with the participation of local farmers and without political interference.
