Israeli military officials are considering a ground operation in Gaza City soon, even though only about a quarter of residents are believed to have fled, while senior defense officials warn that seizing the city would not bring about Hamas' defeat.
The military says about 300,000 people have already fled southward, with intensified fighting and recent strikes on high-rise buildings driving more residents out. The IDF expects most of those still in Gaza City to leave once the ground operation begins.
In an effort to reduce international criticism and preserve American legitimacy to continue the fighting, the office of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories issued an update Sunday on the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
