A day after the launch of the election campaign of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder and actor Vijay was held in Tiruchi on Saturday, the police on Sunday booked three cases against some party office-bearers and unidentified persons for causing damage to government and private property and for installation of vinyl banners.
The three cases were booked in Cantonment, Gandhi Market and Srirangam police stations.
Police sources said a case under the Tamil Nadu Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act has been booked in the Cantonment police station for the damages caused to steel fencing put up around a roadside park beneath the overbridge at TVS Tollgate Junction. The case was booked on a complaint preferred by a Junior Engineer of the Tiruchi Corporation against the five party persons and organisers of the event. Those named as accused include Karikalan, the party’s urban district president, and Thulasimani, party’s women’s wing district president.
Sources said the case booked in Gandhi Market police station was based on a complaint by the owner of a shop at Marakkadai Junction.
The case booked in Srirangam police station was under the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act against some unidentified party cadres for having installed vinyl flex banners. None of the persons named as accused have been been arrested so far, the sources added.
