The foundation stone for the Karnataka-based RCC Nutra Fill’s Gamma Irradiation and Life Sciences Facility was laid at the KSIDC Business Park in Angamaly on Sunday (September 14).

The ₹100-crore facility is the 98th project which has entered the construction stage among those which were proposed at the Invest Kerala Global Summit (IKGS), according to P. Rajeeve, the Minister for Industries, who laid the foundation stone.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rajeeve said that of the expressions of interest that came through the IKGS, projects with a total investment of ₹35,000 crore have already been implemented.

Spread across five acres, the facility is expected to complete Phase 1 within the next 24 months. It will serve as an integrated gamma irradiation hub, combining cold storage, warehousing, research and development, manufacturing, logistics, and the handling of Life Sciences and FMCG products, according to a statement issued by the company. Gamma irradiation is a sterilisation technology used in the food industry mainly to eliminate disease-causing microorganisms and improve the shelf life of products, apart from various other applications in different sectors.
