AIADMK general Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami said on Saturday that industrial activity had declined phenomenally during the DMK regime, resulting in joblessness.

Speaking in Singanallur, he said the 67% rise in power tariff and 150% rise in property tax for commercial buildings were the major contributing factors. In the industrial hub of Coimbatore, known as the ‘Manchester of South India’, workers were employed only for one shift, and many were on the verge of losing their jobs, he remarked.

The AIADMK, after victory in the 2026 polls, will invigorate industrial activity by reviving and completing the airport expansion work, Metro Rail project, pending road-infrastructure works, Mr. Palaniswami said.

‘Taking credit’

The DMK, he pointed out, has done preciousvery little for Coimbatore’s progress, for 52 months in power now, and was only claiming credit for the major overbridge projects initiated by the AIADMK in Coimbatore.
