A third-year student of Jadavpur University was found dead inside the university campus in Kolkata on Thursday (September 11) night. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Jadavpur Police Station and officials sealed off the area.
The body of a woman was found floating in a lake inside the JU campus on Thursday night near gate number four. The lake is adjacent to the union room of the college. The deceased has been identified as 21-years-old student studying undergraduate course in the English department.
“There was a programme going on inside the campus at a parking lot near gate number four organised by the drama club. The student reportedly went to the washroom but did not come back for a while. After 20-30 minutes her body was seen floating in the lake,” a source inside Jadavpur University told The Hindu, adding that the incident may have happened between 10-10.30pm in the night.
Friends of the deceased suspect that she may have slipped and fallen into the lake on her way to the washroom. Notably, the washroom is on a narrow path alongside the lake, lacks lights or CCTV cameras.
