Two men who were killed in a 'freak' accident at one of England's oldest football clubs over the weekend were crushed by glass panels they were unloading from a lorry, the Daily Mail can reveal.
The workers, who have not yet been named, died suddenly on Saturday afternoon while they were removing the cargo from the back of the HGV in the overflow car park at Hitchin Football Club, Hertfordshire.
Tragedy struck when a large glass panel fell from the container lorry, trapping the two men beneath it.
Emergency crews rushed to the club on Fishponds Road at around 2pm after the men suffered serious injuries, but the pair tragically died at the scene. A third man was treated for minor injuries.
Haulage company Martello, whose lorry remains at the scene, confirmed one of its drivers had been delivering a container to the stadium from Southampton, but mystery surrounds who was responsible for the unloading.
