The Netherlands announced Tuesday that it is banning National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich from entering the 29 countries in Europe's Schengen area.
"The cabinet decided to declare the ministers persona non grata," the Dutch government said.
The directive has been entered into the Schengen Information System, and the border authorities of all member countries are obligated to comply and deny entry to the two ministers. However, a source Haaretz that governments might instruct their border authorities to disregard the ban.
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the decision was based on "exceptional circumstances," and that The Netherlands will continue to advocate for EU-level measures.
The announcement follows a similar move by the Spanish government, which also banned the two ministers from entering Spain.
