LOS ANGELES — Leonardo DiCaprio wouldn't let passing cars stop him from greeting Leo-mania fans at the "One Battle After Another" premiere.
Hollywood Boulevard was open for moving traffic during the Sept. 8 world premiere of writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson's darkly comedic revolutionary thriller (opening Sept. 26). But DiCaprio, 50, dove across the street to greet hundreds of cheering fans outside the TCL Chinese Theatre.
It's not like DiCaprio was close to being carried off on the hood of a passing Tesla: Hollywood brakes for mega-stars. But it was unusual to see stunned passing drivers fumbling for their iPhones to capture one of the world's biggest stars surrounded by security and a few of LAPD's finest.
And what's not to love about the buoyant DiCaprio, who walked the red carpet solo (Italian supermodel girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti made a subtle separate entrance). "The Great Gatsby" star looked dashing in a dark suit with open collar, far different from the wild-haired, ratty red robe-wearing revolutionary Bob Ferguson in the absurdist thriller.
"That would have been cool to have worn (the robe)," DiCaprio tells USA TODAY on the carpet. "I would have much rather have dressed like Bob tonight."
