Dismayed residents of a picturesque village say they are tired of HGVs blighting their medieval roads and Grade-II listed homes.

The sleepy village of Goudhurst, nestled deep in the rolling Kent hills, has long been renowned for its pretty scenery, winding high street and red-bricked weavers' cottages.

But in recent times, locals say the area's peaceful tranquility has been replaced with the ghastly sound of thumping lorries which they claim are causing chaos on the village's narrow A-roads.

A series of images shared by furious residents show the 54ft vehicles holding up traffic as they stretch across roads - as well as scraping past each other on the sharp bend near St Mary's church.

Such instances have sparked fears over the potentially fatal consequences of blue-lighting emergency services being stuck behind the lorries, as well as children walking to school near the HGV 'carnage'.
