At least eight people have died and 45 injured after a train crashed into a double-decker bus northwest of Mexico city, according to reports.

The crash happened around 7 am in the industrial zone of the Atlacomulco municipality.

The Red Cross, state police, national guard and uniformed officers from the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office are at the scene.

The bus belonged to the Herradura de Plata company, and it was carrying around fifty passengers according to La Jornada Hidalgo. People on top of the double-decker were most affected by the collision.

Surveillance video showed the bus in heavy traffic, following other cars as it slowly crossed the tracks before the train suddenly hurtled into its midpoint, folding the bus in two and dragging it down the tracks.
