The Tiruppur South police are on the lookout for a security guard employed by a private bank at Periyapalayam who had allegedly obtained firearms licence by producing fake documents.

Sri Umesh Singh (55) of Muzaffarpur district in Bihar had reportedly told the police earlier that he had secured the licence from Udaipur in 2015, and had purchased the gun from an armoury in Bangalore during January 2016. He had also stated that the gun licence was renewed by the Additional District Judge of Ramban town in Jammu and Kashmir, till December 2025. Upon scrutiny, the police established the claim to be false.

Sri Umesh Singh went absconding with the gun when the police went to the private bank again to arrest him. The police registered a case under the Arms Act, 1959.
