Nobel-prize-winning American economist Joseph Stiglitz told a forum on competitiveness at the headquarters of the Assolombarda business association in Milan on Monday that any agreement made with United States President Donald Trump is worthless.
"I don't think any agreement with Trump is worth the paper it's written on," Stiglitz said in relation to the deal on tariffs between the EU and the US.
"He reached an agreement with Canada and Mexico during his first term, and on the first day of his second term, he tore it up.
"They had reached an agreement, but it was only temporary.
"So I think an agreement with Trump should be considered a temporary truce, which will be broken when it suits him".
