A day at the beach in Southern California nearly turned deadly when two children became trapped in a collapsing sand hole as waves surged in near Newport Beach Pier.
The ordeal last month at Newport Beach triggered a desperate rescue that was caught on dramatic video which has since been viewed more than 20 million times.
Panic slowly set in as adults tried to dig the boys out before the rising tide left them submerged.
Lifeguards eventually sprinted onto the scene and began a frantic race against time to save the children from the grip of the wet sand.
Beachgoers were left stunned as they watched in horror while three adults fought to save the boys before the ocean swallowed them.
