This is the moment two teenagers trapped by a rising tide in the dead of night were plucked to safety by a heroic rescue crew.

The youngsters had climbed down the precipice in daylight to reach the beach at Bude, Cornwall, last Saturday, but as darkness fell, the sea surged in and cut off their escape.

They slipped on steep rocks while trying to climb back, leaving them stranded and too scared to move in the pitch-black night.

Dramatic footage shows rescue teams edging along the cliff to reach the trapped teens on the crumbling cliff face.

Crews battled in what was described as a 'challenging and unpredictable' mission involving the Coastguard and RNLI Lifeboats before eventually hauling one teenager to safety.
