The British Horse Society has become the latest organisation to say ‘neigh’ to its members using the words ‘mother’ or ‘father’ to avoid causing offence.

The UK’s ‘largest and most influential equestrian charity’ with over 110,000 members, offers the advice in a woke ‘inclusive language’ guide.

Instead of gendered terms, the terms ‘parents’ or ‘caregivers’ should be used, it states.

The organisation also says foreigners should be described as ‘people from overseas’, while ‘humankind’ is suggested as a replacement for ‘mankind’.

The move by the BHS follows similar guidance from council and university chiefs, and other publicly-funded groups.
