Hamas' latest statement on Wednesday night, declaring its readiness for a comprehensive hostage deal that would end the war in Gaza, was immediately rejected by Israel, as expected. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has delayed his response to the mediators' cease-fire proposal since August 18, dismissed the announcement as "just spin with nothing new in it." Indeed, Hamas offered little that was new.
