A sexual abuse survivor who was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein when she was a teenager and went on to vote for President Donald Trump as an adult slammed the president this week for calling the uproar over the case a “Democrat hoax.”
Jena-Lisa Jones was one of the survivors who stood outside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday to share her experience next to Republican and Democratic lawmakers. She is backing efforts from Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) to force the Trump administration to release Epstein’s files.
Despite saying he had no problem releasing the Epstein case files last year during his presidential campaign, Trump once again dismissed the scandal on Wednesday at the Oval Office, labeling it a “Democrat hoax.”
Jones joined MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell on “The Last Word” following her Capitol Hill appearance and addressed the president’s remarks.
“I voted for Trump, and for him to say what he’s saying is beyond me, because I put my hope in him, and he’s supposed to protect us,” Jones said. “And for him to say that this is a joke and that it’s sides, this is not sides.”
