The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the State government to file financial statements and copies of annual reports of Sarasvati Mahal Library in Thanjavur for the last five years.
A Division Bench of Justices Anita Sumanth and C. Kumarappan also directed the State to furnish the list of sanctioned posts and existing vacancies in the library. The court was hearing a public interest litigation petition, filed by B. Prabhakaran of Chennai, seeking a direction to classify Sarasvati Mahal Library as a Model Library under the National Mission on Libraries.
