Women are turning away from motherhood in their droves because the pressures of second wave feminism have made the lives of many new mothers intolerable, Peter Hitchens has argued.
Speaking on the Alas Vine and Hitchens podcast, the columnist said the women's liberation movement of the mid to late twentieth century sold women an 'untruth' - that they could have both an exciting career and be mothers.
Hitchens claimed this 'wonderful world' is the sole preserve of the rich, who can afford quality childcare and live-in help.
Debating declining birthrates, co-host and columnist Sarah Vine clashed with the author over his claim that many new mothers live a 'nightmare life' of impossible demands and expectations.
