Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Novak Djokovic is unsure how he overcame American foe Taylor Fritz in a 2025 U.S. Open quarterfinal, but credited luck for playing a large role.

Fritz edged the Serbian 12-10 in aces and 46-33 in winners Tuesday in Flushing, N.Y. The highest-ranked American (No. 4) also totaled five double faults, compared to Djokovic's eight, but converted just 2 of 13 break point chances.

Djokovic converted 4 of his 9 break point opportunities in the 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 victory.

"Incredibly close match," Djokovic said on the ESPN broadcast. "It was really anybody's match. I thought I was lucky to save some crucial break points in the second set. I think for most of the second and third set, he was a better player.
