A two-year-old boy was killed while walking home from the beach with his parents when an ‘out-of-control car’ ploughed into them, an inquest heard.

Little Sonny Macdonald was in his pushchair as his mother and father walked him back to their home in Cromwell Road, Whitstable, Kent, after a trip to the seaside when the tragedy happened around 8.24pm on Saturday, August 16.

As the vehicle turned into the road, it ‘lost control’ and hit the family, seriously injuring Sonny’s father, before smashing through a metal barrier and plunging into Gorrell Tank car park.

Coroner Katrina Hepburn told Oakwood House in Maidstone: ‘His mother and father witnessed his death, which occurred at approximately 8.24pm.

'[They] were walking back from Whitstable beach from the harbour with Sonny, who was in a pushchair.'
