Nigel Farage is expected to urge Donald Trump to punish Britain through trade and diplomatic action if it fails to uphold free speech when he faces US politicians today.

The Reform leader and MP is due to say Britain has become an 'authoritarian censorship regime' after the arrest of Irish writer Graham Linehan for posting trans-critical tweets.

Mr Farage is skipping Parliament's first week back after its summer break - including Prime Minister's Questions - to visit the United States, and will give evidence to the House Judiciary Committee in Washington later.

He will raise the case of Linehan, who has said he was detained at Heathrow Airport over three posts on X, as he argues Britain has 'lost its way' on civil liberties, the Sun reported.

The paper said he will also urge the Trump administration to use 'diplomacy and trade' as leverage against the UK.
