Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed condemnation on Wednesday after the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon said Israel Defense Forces (IDF) drones dropped four grenades close to its peacekeepers while they were working to clear roadblocks.

The UN mission said it was "one of the most serious attacks on UNIFIL personnel and assets since the cessation of hostilities agreement of last November," adding that one of the grenades impacted within 20 metres of its personnel and vehicles.

Posting on X after meeting US President Donald Trump's Advisor on Middle Eastern Affairs Massad Boulos, Tajani said "we condemn the attacks on the #UNIFIL mission, which works to ensure security and stability of Lebanon".

Italy contributes over 1,000 troops to the mission.
