Keir Starmer's new chief economic adviser said Labour should rip up its election pledges and raise personal taxes, while lashing out at Rachel Reeves and Angela Reeves for hampering businesses.
Baroness Minouche Shafik, who was appointed to No10 on Monday, used an interview earlier this year to suggest upping income tax and VAT to boost Treasury coffers.
The former deputy governor of the Bank of England was brought in to act as a bridge between Sir Keir and Chancellor Rachel Reeves ahead of a Budget expected to raise taxes later this autumn.
But she used an appearance on LBC in April to attack 'feeble' UK growth under Ms Reeves' stewardship and criticise her last Budget for raising employer National Insurance Contributions (NICs).
'I wouldn't have chosen that tax if I wanted to raise revenue,' she told presenter Andrew Marr.
