Telling a woman that she should know how to clean is discriminatory, a tribunal has ruled.

Zied Lajimi, a Travelodge hotel manager, was fired after a tribunal found his comment to a female member of staff that she should know how to clean discriminatory.

Mr Lajimi made the comment after the staff member told him that she was unable to clean sellotape residue from a counter.

Employment Judge Judith George ruled the remark to be offensive due to the association with 'historic and outdated attitudes' that women have a domestic role.

Mr Lajimi told bosses that he apologised when he realised the comment might have caused offence and admitted he made a 'mistake'.
