Inmates at Britain's toughest prisons are to be 'reassured' about the use of Tasers over fears they might be 'triggered' by the weapons.

Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood has authorised a new trial of Tasers following a spate of vicious assaults, including knife and boiling water attacks in prisons.

Guidance has been issued to officers at HMP Belmarsh, which is home to Manchester Arena bomb plotter Hashem Abedi and Southport killer Axel Rudakubana.

It instructs staff to explain the rollout of the devices and 'provide reassurance' to convicts unsettled by the scheme.

They must tell them who will be carrying the devices and how they will be deployed.
