Dramatic footage shows prison officers firing Tasers during staged hostage scenarios as they train for the weapons to be deployed behind bars.
Specialist officers based in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, and Doncaster, South Yorkshire will be the first to be equipped with Tasers during a trial looking into their use in jails.
The move is response to a dramatic rise in assaults on prison staff, which hit 10,605 in the year to December - a rise of 13 per cent.
Video shared exclusively with MailOnline shows Taser-wielding officers storming in on a hostage scenario at a HM Prison Service training centre in Kidlington.
One of the officers is heard shouting 'Taser, Taser!' and deploying the weapon at a 'hostage taker' wielding a wooden bat. They then rush the man and handcuff him.
