A child was caught with pepper spray as police apprehended a protester who was witnessed committing an assault as an anti-migrant protest erupted in Canary Wharf today.

A police officer was also punched in the face as they showed down with demonstrators as they made their way through a shopping centre in the Isle of Dogs.

The Met Police have made several arrests after imposing restrictions on people wearing masks at the anti-asylum protest.

Videos shared online showed young children among demonstrators, with some waving England flags.

Earlier this afternoon, around counter-protesters faced off with about a dozen anti-immigration demonstrators outside the Britannia Hotel in Canary Wharf.
