If you need another reason to stop doomscrolling, we’ve got one ready: It can lead to anxiety-inducing information you wish you didn’t see. Case in point for me: TikTok videos about how people can easily see your Snapchat messages and text messages from their phone.

That sounds like a nightmare, even if you don’t have anything to hide. Add some normal anxiety around data security — which is questionable at best right now — and the “doom” part of “doomscrolling” seems even more real.

Let me brief you on the context. TikTok creators have posted videos claiming you can see people’s Snapchat history with an app called Snaptroid, and that you can see people’s iMessages in the iCloud with only their phone number, thanks to a new iPhone update.

The comment sections on these videos aren’t much more helpful, with users saying it’s “working perfectly” and “this happened before.” Even Reddit posts about it could be clearer.

HuffPost spoke to spokespeople at Apple and Snapchat. Both said there is no merit or substance to these claims, and that services like these are often schemes that steal your information. HuffPost also reached out to Snaptroid for comment, but has not received an answer at the time of publication.
