A father who has been diagnosed with stage four cancer has revealed how artificial intelligence told him it was 'very unlikely' he had the disease.
Warren Tierney, 37, from Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, used OpenAI’s ChatGPT to seek medical advice after he began suffering from a sore throat earlier this year that eventually left him unable to swallow fluids.
He was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus last week, turning his devastated family's lives upside down as he battles an average five-year survival rate of just five to 10 per cent.
While looking after his wife Evelyn, 38, who had struggled through two 'very difficult' pregnancies with extreme hyperemesis, Mr Tierney began noticing that swallowing his food required more effort than usual.
Admitting he fell into the 'systemic male belief' that he didn't need to see a doctor, the former psychologist began using the AI software in his downtime to discuss his symptoms while he focused on taking care of his young kids and wife.
