Supreme Court Collegium member, Justice B.V. Nagarathna, has dissented to a recommendation to elevate Patna High Court Chief Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi as an apex court judge.
Justice Nagarathna had intervened earlier too against the elevation of Justice Pancholi to the Supreme Court on the ground of his seniority. The lone woman judge in the Supreme Court had at the time pointed out that there were several High Court judges senior to Justice Pancholi. One of them, Justice Nagarathna had noted, was Justice N.V. Anjaria, whose parent High Court was also Gujarat. Justice Anjaria was subsequently appointed to the Supreme Court in May.
