Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Browns plan to release wide receiver Diontae Johnson.
Sources told NFL Network, ESPN and Cleveland.com about the move Tuesday, when NFL teams must trim their rosters to 53 players by 4 p.m. EDT.
The Browns signed Johnson to a one-year, $1.7 million deal in April. Traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Carolina Panthers last off-season, Johnson joined the Baltimore Ravens in another trade in October.
He was waived in December and joined the Houston Texans three days later. The Texans waived Johnson in January.
Johnson, a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, spent his first five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He totaled a career-high 107 catches for 1,161 yards and eight scores over 16 appearances in 2021 en route to a Pro Bowl selection.
