May 11 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Chargers agreed to a one-year, $8 million contract with former Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku, his agent, Malki Kawa, confirmed Monday on social media.

Njoku, 29, signed a four-year, $56.7 million contract with the Browns in 2022. That pact was later restructured. Njoku was designated as a post-June 1 release by the Browns this off-season.

The No. 29 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft totaled 293 yards and four scores on 33 catches over 12 appearances in 2025. He logged 384 catches for 4,062 yards and 34 scores over the first 118 appearances of his career. Njoku made the Pro Bowl in 2023, when he hauled in a career-high 81 catches for 882 yards and six scores over 16 starts.

The nine-year veteran is set to join a Chargers tight ends room that also includes Oronde Gadsden II and Charlie Kolar, among others. Gadsden, a fifth-round pick in 2025, totaled 664 yards and three scores on 49 catches last season. The Chargers signed Kolar to a three-year, $24.3 million contract this off-season.

The Chargers will hold their first session of organized team activities May 26. They will hold mandatory minicamp from June 16 to 18.
